National Agency of Meteorology and Teledetection by Satellite, METTELSAT, is a Public Service in technical and scientific matter, with legal personality and financial autonomy. It is placed under supervision of the Transport and Communications Ministry.
The role of Agency is the monitoring of climatic and weather evolution and determination of natural resources for planning of their management for sustainable development.

It is in particular charged with:

General meteorology and its applications including: synoptic meteorology, aeronautical meteorology, climatology, the solar radiation, maritime meteorology, hydrology ;

General geophysics understanding: magnetism, seismology, gravimetry, study of ionosphere and atmospheric electricity ;

Application of teledetection in data-gathering relative to physical evolution of environment.
